A Full Ten Days After My First Karaoke Event
After the flyer was posted at work a good three weeks in advance, I
went to my first karaoke event. I've NEVER BEEN - in truth I haven't done
a lot of things because of my prior housewife-eternally-bound-by-home-and-spouse-existence.
This event appeared before I even acknowledged the fact I've never gone to one.
Because it rained on and off during the day, many people who said they were going
to be there didn't show up. As I get out earlier, I got there about thirty minutes before
everyone else. Then the fun began. The bar was pretty full of people looking to
let off steam that built up during the week, myself included. That whole week,
I debated as to whether I should pick my song(s) in advance and rehearse.
But in the end just decided to go with the flow. Someone did "You Oughta Know" -
everyone's screaming it at the top of their lungs. A great song. Same for "The End of
The Road" - something about drinking and music inexplicably goes together. I was
singing top volume at that as well, even though I don't really care for it. Ultimately,
I did two songs - "I Will Survive" and "Vivir Mi Vida." The former because it has a
good vibe, reflects my present circumstance (kinda) and easy to sing. The latter simply
because I love the song. It was cool seeing my co-workers looking on my boss dancing
in the background. I lost a ten-dollar bet, thank goodness I didn't make it twenty but it was
all and all a great night.
