Late But on Time

I really didn't plan on posting this late, honest. 😉 I guess I got sidetracked with the brutality of filing my taxes, FINALLY. Now that it's out of the way, I can get back to the regular things. Last week, I went to two events - Alonzo Bodden at The Den Thursday and a regular poetry circle Saturday. I haven't seen a comedy show since I saw George Lopez at the Chicago Theatre. The Den is a much smaller venue, similar to Evanston Space but a little bigger. There's something about smaller venues that I love, maybe it's the intimacy of them. At the circle, I've been there before but last year. Now the time slot is later; 2pm to 4pm instead of Noon to 2pm. I don't mind, it makes no difference to me. As of lately, I'm really liking workshops more because they help me produce work I'd never think of if I were in the house. Open Mics give me ideas, but the workshops help me implement them before going home. We were handed a poem and told to recall a prior...

The Beauty of Having a Planner

Image
I bought a planner at Ross last December for eight bucks. I was never a 'planner' type of person, preferring to write appointments, etc on a big grid calendar instead. So, it was a new experience when I cracked it open New Year's Day. The front cover says -  with '2024' underneath it. It has monthly tabs, sections for birthdays, goals and  notes. As of today's date, I'm finally getting into the groove of it. And I'll admit it felt funny as hell not writing things up on the calendar. Which was annoying because at some point the ink in the pen would dry up from writing at that angle and I'd be annoyed while quickly hunting for another one. But as the planner isn't on the wall, that no longer happens. I find myself skimming over the monthly calendars to focus on the daily section. At the end of the month, I calculate how often I went to open mics/poetry workshops, the number of workouts (ugh) and how many submissions I made for the month. Using stic...

Happy New Year!

To solve my weeks' long problem of whether or not to go out for NYE, fate solved it for me. I caught a cold December 26th. I COULD'VE gone out but as I was just getting over the cold, I decided against it. So, I stayed home and binged watched The Twilight Zone instead. I didn't watch the one on SciFi, opting for the Classic Drama channel on Pluto TV instead. I love TZ, it reminds me of my Mom, who got me into watching it. I gave her The Twilight Zone Companion Book years ago. Now, I have to buy a copy for myself. Some of my favorite episodes are as follows: The Midnight Sun The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street The Shelter Eye of the Beholder A Nice Place to Visit I've watched well into January 2nd and it felt good. Though, I'm not ashamed to say I did take a nap and set my alarm to 11:45pm to make sure I didn't miss it. Even though I wasn't out, I didn't want to go to sleep like it was just any other night. Because it wasn't, you know? It was import...
