Publication and Inspiration

As I promised on Instagram, the following is my second poem

published this month by 'Down in the Dirt' entitled 'Getting Older.'

Getting Older

It doesn’t stampede amid

the horn blows of a cavalry

charge. It sneaks up like a

ninja upon enemy territory.

Health issues, laying dormant

for many years; suddenly

arise. Parading themselves

out of various abysses of

untold depths. The body

and the self-two separate

entities that, after co-existing

happily in youth - now

violently go their separate

ways.

(end)

As of this writing, I've always considered myself at

peace with getting older. But nevertheless, there

are a few details in that act that require being

recognized. Please note whatever I may add here is

only the beginning of a list that would be too long to

place here.

- memory loss

- creaking knees

- skin changes

among other things.

This isn't a complaining list, nor a complain blog. It's

simply an acknowledgement of things in my life at any

given moment. On a side note, getting older plus

working out is turning into a real interesting equation.

This is my third month working out regularly, even

though I still have to do my little preparations of

drinking coffee beforehand and rubbing my knees

with Icy Hot (as a precaution), my mind is fully made

up that this fitness journey will be something I plan

to immerse myself in completely from now on.

Granted, my problem areas still look the same much to

my chagrin. But that's only because I'm hella impatient -

constantly reminding myself that -

January, I worked out twice, February - 5 times. March - eleven and

April, twelve. The plan being to workout every other day. Most

recently, my instructor finally got me doing floor exercises.

Which I detest, only because I can't do them. Shaking like a leaf

in the throes of fall while doing the forearm planks. #imnotkidding
